My Students

My students will be the first in their families to go to college, and in order to graduate from high school, they need to complete a College Success Portfolio, which offers them an opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of inquiry, analysis, research and argumentation, and creative expression.

Although my students work hard and have dreams of four-year college, they do not always have the technology or the space outside of school in order to do the deep level of revision necessary to transform their work to college-ready status.

We use Google Apps for our portfolio program, and therefore students have variable access to the Internet at home, which challenges our goal to create equitable opportunities for students to succeed.

My Project

That's where the Chromebooks come in. Right now, teachers must reserve the limited computer carts for a short period of time. It's impossible, for example, for a student to have extensive use of a Chromebook for more than one period at a time. If we had more Chromebooks, more students would be able to have sustained time revising their work and making more progress on their College Success Portfolios.

Technology is an important ingredient to building a college-going culture at any school.

For my students, it's crucial in order to produce high-quality portfolios and products. I am hopeful that you will join me in this effort, and thank you!
