Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are artists, activists, and change-makers. They are inquisitive and eager to learn. At our school, we focus on the growth of the whole child, and this is what makes us special. My students demonstrate thinking that reflect real-world change across content areas. Above all, our community engages in our core values of what it means to be an upstander and demonstrate 100% respect to 100% of people, 100% of the time. This empowers our students to grow themselves as empathetic readers, writers, and thinkers, as opposed to a series of standardized exams.

Above all, at our community-centered public school, we strive to create safer spaces for each other: in our physical space, emotional space, and intellectual space.

We acknowledge that in these unprecedented times, we are all even more responsible for each others’ health, safety, and learning.

My Project

Help us learn and access digital materials with Chromebooks! We use technology every day during the school day, all throughout the day. That's why we are in need of more 1:1 devices to serve our students, meaning every student has their own device to learn with and on. We already have a charging cart set up and ready for the Chromebook devices to settle in safely in our classroom. The 10 devices will primarily be for our advisory class, where students will take ownership of their learning by checking their grades, setting goals for study hall, completing assignments with my direct support as needed, and best of all, playing engaging digital team building games like Kahoot and Baamboozle... their favorites! However, the devices will support all students throughout the school, as teachers can "sign out" the soon-to-be computer cart to use on a rotating basis.

Now we just need your help in bringing these devices home!

The entire school community will benefit from these devices. In such an unprecedented last couple of years, having the consistency of a computer cart in the classroom will resolve many problems faced daily while we experience an in-school device shortage. With your help, we will gradually face more like-normal circumstances, and can focus on making this year as best it can be.
