My students are bright, spunky, and ready to learn! They have a thirst to understand Psychology and other social sciences, and great senses of humor. They ask awesome questions that show critical thinking skills. Students, in this day and age, rely heavily on technology and I'd love to provide more of it in the classroom setting. Despite serving mostly a middle-class demographic, many of my students don't have access to computers at home and/or need more focused time at school to complete work on Canvas; however, our library closes early at 3:00PM. I'd like to provide a few Chromebooks for students to use during Advisory intervention time and after-school as needed.
My Project
We use Canvas every day to help give students access to the notes, learning activities, videos, assignments, etc., especially when students are absent. We also use Chromebooks for learning activities such as reviewing ethical case studies in Psychology or observing how plate tectonics works in Geography. Students also need to type writing assignments on occasion, like for our Personality Mask project that is always a creative, fun way to get to know each other!
We also encourage students to show responsibility by checking their grades on Skyward regularly.
Students frequently do their math homework on Canvas or other computer software programs. It is frustrating to students to to have an intervention/study hall period during the week and not have enough computers to accomplish the assignments that they need to. Our school does not have enough Chromebook carts to go around, so I'd like to at least have 2 Chromebooks in my room consistently for student-use.
