My Students

I teach 4th-grade math at a rural school district in south MS. Most of the students I teach are from low-income homes. Due to this fact, many have never been out of the state.

My students are curious about the world around them.

They are inquisitive and eager to learn. However, for many, the classroom is the only place where they have an opportunity to explore concepts outside of their community.

Even though many lack the resources to experience much of what the world has to offer, they have dreams and goals. Some students express the desire to become doctors, teachers, lawyers, and even politicians.

Programs like Donors Choose allow my students access to resources they otherwise would not have. Teachers in my school district supply paper, pencils, copy paper, printers, and most essential classroom resources. Without donations from caring businesses and individuals, many needs of my students would not be met.

My Project

Chromebooks will help bring my classroom into the 21st Century. Technology is all around us; unless you step foot in my 4th grade math class. My students have limited access to technology resources that help motivate and inspire them.

Integrating Chrome Books will provide my students with learning opportunities in a real world setting.

Students are more motivated and engaged in the lessons when technology is used. They see it as something they need to know and will use in their life as opposed to a traditional textbook learning environment.

Having just a few of these ChromeBooks in class will allow my students to work on collaborative learning projects and engage in interactive lessons to help them reach their goals.

One way students will use these chromebooks is to create tutorials using screencast technology that cane be used for years to come.

Reading, writing, and math are skills that students need to be successful in life. However, in the 21st Century, technology skills are just as important to ensuring these learners grow into productive citizens in the world in which they live.
