This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a 12:1+1 special education classroom in the South Bronx. Many of my students have learning disabilities. The school is located in a high poverty area.

My students are faced with hardships everyday; yet, they come to school eager to learn.

Despite obstacles put in their way, my students strive to reach their potential. School is their safe haven where I strive to provide them with all the knowledge I can with the resources that are available to me.

My Project

My students face many challenges while living below the poverty line. One of these challenges is having access to technology. Not one students in my class this year has a computer at home. It breaks my heart that in 2016, a computer is not available to each of my students. There are many wonderful free educational websites that I have suggested my special needs students use at home in order to continue practicing skills and learning. Since my students do not have access to a computer at home, I want to give my students more access to computers in school. My goal is to include more computer time in my classroom. I want to create a classroom of students who are technologically savvy. After all, we are living in 2016 where technology keeps on improving. My students need access to Chromebooks so that they can first learn how to use a computer.
