My Students

I am an AIS teacher located in New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first, second, and third-grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.

When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.

It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.

My Project

My students are rapidly discovering the connection between numbers and money. We run a class store, where they earn "dollars" in order to purchase certain items. They are learning the value of our "money." But I want my children to have a true understanding about the power of being financially independent. I discovered there are great websites that would provide invaluable information. We are going to take advantage of these websites, to provide valuable information about saving and planning for your financial future. I plan on setting up class savings accounts and teaching my students the difference between "wants" and "needs".

I feel once children recognize that money is in simple terms of just numbers, they will be able to grasp the basics about saving and investing for the future.

Children need to play and use a Chromebook in order to gain deeper understandings about a subject. Quite frankly, I can not think of any more serious subject than their financial well being. This is just the first step along the journey of a deeper understanding of how math is all around their world.
