My Students

"Look what I made!" is shouted across the room quite often. At this point they eyes of 30 students look over to the speaker and comment on the positives of the work and ask how did you do that? My students are creative, energetic and always ready to explore new ways to express their ideas and emotions.

My students come from over 60 countries and speak over 60 different languages in their homes.

Their personal experiences and world views allow for greater depth in their artwork. They have a lot to say visually and verbally, but not always in the same languages.

Our school is the largest middle school in the nations poorest city. All of the students are experiencing the effects of low income and inner city issues as well as the global issues from their home countries. Our goal in the art room is to give the students an environment where they feel safe to express their ideas, hopes, dreams and fears.

My Project

With the addition of a Chromebook to the art classroom students will learn the role technology plays in today's art and design world. Students will learn to create and edit clay animation videos, digital photography and graphic designs. Students will also create blogs and podcasts to reflect on all of the artwork that they create. Students will create a digital portfolio which is required for students to apply to a magnet high school for visual art.

By donating to this project you will be turning my students into 21st century learners and giving them the chance to experience how far technology can transform their creations.
