My Students

My students are truly amazing. They all have unique gifts, abilities, and the funniest little quirks that can turn every bad day into sunshine that will have the entire class laughing, sometimes until tears run down our cheeks. I am a Special Education Teacher of 16 students, 14 boys and 2 girls. The boys love to take jabs at one another but will immediately show you how caring and endearing they can be when one of their classmates are crying or having a not so great moment during the day, and how quickly they'll make a move to give help or comfort.

My students often ask me why they are in a Special Education class.

I often remind them that they are in a classroom setting that allows for extended time to process the curriculum. Also, that they are just as bright and intelligent as their peers in general education. After telling them this enough times over and over, it warms my heart to see a happiness cross their little faces because they begin to believe that they are just as smart as their peers in general education and the teasing from the other side doesn't sting as much.

My Project

Many of the students in my class have reading, decoding, reading rate, vocabulary and comprehension difficulties and cannot read traditional books. The good news for my struggling readers is that literacy can continue to blossom since an increasing number of books are more accessible and converted to alternative formats.

Every student deserves the chance to take part in using technology that will change their world and increase their learning opportunity.

Having ASUS VivoBooks allows for individualizing learning for students with disabilities, differentiating teaching for these students, and making sure these students have access to books in alternative formats according to their individual needs.
