My Students

My students are hardworking kids from New York City in a special education class. They are hard-working but happy students. My students come from low-income families and need every advantage they can get. They face many challenges outside of school, but they work hard in school to succeed.

They have the smarts and the motivation to be the best; let's give them the materials.

I want to ensure my students have all the necessary tools to compete in our challenging world.

My Project

This is my Dream Project! Chromebooks are an incredible resource in our classroom. Chromebooks can help provide intervention, extension, and on level learning opportunities.

The Chromebook in this project will be used by my students in all areas of study including reading, math, social studies and science (STEM).

Most of my students have no computers or tablets in their homes so they have very little experience using technology. They are eager learners and love to use technology; unfortunately we don't have enough to go around. The use Chromebooks allows me to assign appropriate work for each student. Students with ADHD and learning disabilities have more focus with the use of headphones and tablets. My students read on levels from pre-k to third grade. The use of reading apps ensures that each student is learning and being challenged to improve no matter where they are starting. Students can listen to reading materials, read along or read on their own. Having the choices available also benefit my ENL (English New Language) students; They are able to see and hear words pronounced properly. I am hoping to build up our technology so my students can access apps to build their fluency with numbers, counting, adding, subtracting and more. Coding is a new "language" that we all are learning together. We have practiced coding, moving characters around (programming) on the screen; eventually I'd like to add robots to our STEM station. Having enough Chromebooks for every student would transform the what, when, where and how my students learn every day.

Being able to use technology will help them prepare for high school, college or any career that they may be interested in.
