This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My scholars are resilient and eager to learn. Sometimes I have to give them that extra push, but I love how they are open to growth and willing to try something new. Last year was difficult due to construction on our main building. Students were displaced from their normal high school experience to make much needed repairs to the building. This year will be different because our scholars are returning to their normal school space. I would love to welcome them back to a fresh smelling safe space that they can take pride in while learning.

The classroom supplies will make a difference in learning because they will provide a fresh smell, safe space, and give scholars supplies needed to help them have a successful school year.

One of the first things that my scholars notice when they walk in their classroom is the fresh smell. I try to keep the room clean and sanitize between each class. The small space air fresheners help keep the classroom smelling great. We all know that the environment of the classroom can make a difference to how they learn. Scholars have asked for a space for carpet and a place for a mental break to read. I would like to have a space in the classroom for scholars to decompress and enjoy some down time. This can also serve as a reward system. All other supplies are just daily materials that we use each day. More often, our scholars come to school without supplies. I don't want their day of learning with me to be consumed by not having what they need in the classroom.
