Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Chorus program at my school hosts many events, including quarterly open mic nights! At these open mic nights, students from around the school, not necessarily in the chorus program, have the opportunity to audition for a performance. We post the set list about two days after we host our auditions, and students then prepare about a week before their performance at the open mic night.

Open Mic nights offer students a small and safe environment to perform in, which allows them to build their confidence and create community within the school.

These small performances also show students around the school what it's like to be in the choir and get involved in fun extracurricular activities.

The cushions and bean bags will create a cozy atmosphere where students can hang out while performers feel comfortable in the performance space. The rugs will depict the performance area, especially for bands that sometimes have extensive equipment and drum sets.

These open mic nights are essential to building self-confidence in students and helping build a healthy audience culture. Open Mic nights are also one of the chorus program's fundraisers that we run quarterly, and these items would elevate them to the next level!
