Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, in my current school district, libraries are being closed. My students only get to hear portions of books read aloud and silent reading time has been exchanged for computer time. I introduced them to a "Choose Your Adventure" website and they were wild with excitement! "Can we write our own, Mrs. Murphy?" they squealed with excitement. This is what 2nd grade should sound and look like. Next year, I'll be at a school where I can do more actual teaching and exploring. I firmly believe that early elementary is ground zero in building a love of reading for enjoyment. Help me give my students access to creativity, using their imagination, and the joy of reading for fun.
