This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my First Grade Classroom, I strive to create a L O V E for reading. I have such a blend of learners with various skills, passions, and interests. The largest focus of our classroom community is building readers. “Readers are leaders” and "Super Readers" a common terms in our room! I want students to see the value and scientific benefits of becoming life-long readers. My goals for my students are to create a passion in reading and choice in reading materials.

I try to keep my classroom well-stocked with books about a variety of topics and styles.

However, the small wood shelving units that I built are falling apart and aren't able to hold all of the books we use in our classroom. My students are not given much choice in reading materials and I would love to have all books readily available to read which these bookshelves would accomplish.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice in their work. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional reading options to make more effective learning choices. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional bookshelves will help us grow even more!

I've been able to accrue quite a book collection, but those books need a home!

Nothing makes me happier as a teacher than when a student tells me proudly they finished their full book and they are ready for another. These bookshelves will allow my students' reading to keep soaring and a passion for reading to build even more!
