My Students

My students are from Camden, NJ, an inner city environment. Most students are entitled to free lunch everyday. As I am the only Chinese language teacher in the district, my students are the very few select students that are able to take Chinese in Camden.

Many of my students live in shelters, with foster parents, distant relatives or with one parent.

Many of them work after school or take care of their own siblings. Considering their harsher than normal circumstances, I think that students would benefit from learning Chinese. I would like to utilize as many resources as possible for students to get the most out of their experience.

My Project

This will add a level of interest an authenticity among students since they will be using authentic calligraphy writing materials. Students will be able to learn brush stroke as well as how to write the strokes with the correct amount of pressure they put on the brush/pen. They will also be able to learn write within the correct stroke order as well as understand the proportions of all components or radicals for each character. In this particular project, Ss will learn the most common radicals to learn and apply to all Chinese characters.
