Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As our class begins to prepare for the spring semester we have grown increasingly interested in government and justice. My students are maturing and starting to raise important questions about the inequalities they observe around them.

Rather than quiet this impulse my colleagues and I want to encourage their sense of justice and inspire them to advocate for themselves and others.

Together with the students we have decided to raise awareness of social inequities through a presentation for the school featuring an activist poetry slam, an interactive timeline of children's activism history, creating a protest song, and writing a collaborative book. To do this we need materials to inform and inspire our students. The texts on this list will tap into their background knowledge and build on it so they can share it with their community.
