Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are autistic, intellectually disabled, speech impaired and/or other health impaired. Each one thrives on structure and routine. Their favorite time of day is "Sign-in & Calendar" when they use the ActivBoard, greet each other, perform calendar tasks, and "show off."

Our school is very supportive and inclusive.

My students enjoy participating in activities such as reading buddies, grade level inclusion​ , and peer-to-peer mentoring. Wherever we go in school, other students call out "hello" to my students and call them by name. They are an important part of our school community.

My Project

The books I'm requesting are part of a program designed by a speech and language pathologist to provide picture supported activities and AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) supports. Activities include multi-sensory opportunities to explore concepts, ideas, and themes found within children's literature.

Reading with my students offers them endless opportunities to develop their communication skills, language, and vocabulary.

Through hands-on reading activities, I am able to make the world of literature accessible to all my students, regardless of their disability.

Unfortunately, our school library does not have these books. Inter-library loans have been restricted due to COVID-19.
