As a physical therapist in a barrier-free school of which consists of children with many physical needs, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to help them exercise and learn gross motor skills that can make their experiences in school easier. Some of the children I service are diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, this means that the muscle fibers in their body gradually weaken over time. Other children are diagnosed with autism, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy, which also manifests in muscle weakness and physical limitations. Such chronic diagnosis make it hard for them to navigate around the school setting. They have low endurance, poor gross motor skills, and have difficulty to keep up. My students are strong willed, clever and very ambitious. They like to move, they love to try new things, and they are eager to exercise in hope to gain the skills they try with effort. Many of my students have single or working parents and are not able to attend extra curricular activities to help them after school. They do not have the chance to exercise at home on most occasions.

These items I am requesting to have for my students will help them build muscle tone and endurance. The elliptical will help them build cardiovascular endurance. The weights will help them build muscle tone. The balance games will help increase their balance and coordination so that they can participate in school. The chair bands will help students focus in class.
