My high school is the oldest one in a Title One county. I teach English II which is World Literature and Writing. Most of these students are 10th graders who want to go NC State or Chapel Hill but the majority will be lucky to go to community college. Many of these students are exceptional children and have special needs.

Our county has no extra money for new books. My students are interested in the holocaust and I want teach a book that will give them insight into the lives of children from Terezin concentration camp.

With these books, my students will create a butterfly project that will represent each of the children from Terezin who created a poem while staying in this concentration camp. These butterflies will then be sent to the Houston Holocaust Museum to be put on display in 2011. This project will create an awareness in my students about how Jewish children also perished during the holocaust.

Your help will give my students an opportunity to be expose to a topic that is hard for them to comprehend. They will need to learn about tolerance and kindness if they are to survive college.
