Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Back when I was a middle school student, there was no Internet, cell phones did not exist, and student work was only displayed on bulletin boards in a classroom. Today, parents are able to log onto a classroom webpage and see their students' faces working and see examples of what they are learning!

I teach sixth grade math and science to 72 children at a Title I school in California.

My students are a creative, energetic, and sometimes challenging group, but they love creative outlets of expression. I enjoy giving them projects to work on and things they can do in small groups or partners in which they can put forth a little imagination and creativity. I try to post pictures of them on our classroom webpage doing classroom projects and giving presentations as often as possible because it gives them a sense of pride to see themselves on there. They love having that recognition for doing something well.

My Project

I find that bringing in my own camera for classroom use is sometimes an obstacle and so is borrowing one from a colleague. I am requesting a classroom camera that I can use and that will be simple enough for my students to use as well. I'd like them to take pictures of each other for our class webpage more regularly. I am hoping that by putting the camera in their hands that they will also view this an opportunity to appreciate each other's efforts more and in turn do better on their own projects and assignments.

I hope that you will consider our classroom for a camera so that we an take pride in showing all of our wonderful efforts to our parents and families and keep our webpage more regularly updated with student work.

I know that this will help boost student confidence and morale in my classroom and make for a better work environment in my classroom!
