Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning a new language can be a difficult task to overcome. If you can't relate, my students are an excellent example and will be sure to share their experiences with you. Many of them have recently migrated to this country and are eager to learn. There is just one problem; our classroom is limited in materials & equipment that would facilitate their learning journey.

My students are sixth graders and range from 11-13 years old.

Some of my students have lived in the United States for less than three years. Some have migrated from the Dominican Republic, some have migrated from countries in Central and South America. My students make the class very fun and exciting to be in. They are well behaved, and any teacher would be delated to have them as a class.

Although my students are very passionate about learning and try their best, at times, they come to be frustrated with themselves and the rigid material that they need to help with. Yet, we are limited to in our classroom.  Our school is located in a low-income neighborhood in the Bronx, and as a community school, we are doing the best we can to serve them.

My Project

I have identified most students in my class who are visual learners. Without printer printing paper, loose-leaf, and posters from different subjects around the classroom, they are not appropriately supported. They love to learn with hands-on, tactile and have visual support. Let's change that! If my class were to get the printer along with the other necessary equipment, I could have graphic organizers, sentence starters, and all the required materials ready for them once they enter the room and so much more. I can provide them with visuals to enhance their understanding of unknown words.

Most importantly, I can allow those students who feel lost the opportunity to become further engaged.

Unfortunately, this is not the case. However, if there is ever the opportunity to make a difference in anyone's life, my students would love for you to choose theirs. These materials will make a difference with our students' learning because students will have quick access to materials created by their classroom teacher. By helping me with your donations to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
