Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a Title I school, we struggle with motivation in the classroom. I am always looking for engaging ways to motivate students and develop their love of learning. This year, my Instructional Coach is helping me raise 5 chicks within the classroom to have as positive behavior management for students to earn.

Students will work towards being able to engage with the chicks and also learn about their daily care.

I have 44 fifth graders who are so pumped to be a part of this and I would love to be able to give them the opportunity to set up a running coop outside of our classroom window! The enrichment items will allow for students to engage with the chickens and better the life of the chickens as well. The automated door will allow for easy access for chickens on the weekends as they will be here unattended for short periods of time.

My students are hard workers and look for any means in helping. I think this opportunity will foster their motivation, but also their love of learning to be able to engage with the chicks and take care of them. It will also give them a sense of pride as this has never been done at our school. These students are leaders and have already moved mountains to lead on the soccer field. I am so ready to see what they do with this opportunity!
