My Students

My students come to school every day excited and ready to learn! They are eager to learn and try new things. I want them to know that I believe in them and they can do anything! I teach at a Title I, Pre-K through 2nd-grade school in inner-city Ohio where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the students are living at or below the poverty line. My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are four and five year-olds.

Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them.

They love to learn about new things. They love to look up information online together and will ask many questions to learn as much as they can.

My Project

The urban students are familiar with dogs, cats, and mice. They are not familiar with farm animals or that eggs that hatch into animals. City children think that eggs make scrambled eggs.

My students will have a first hand, a hands-on experiment of observing chicken eggs hatching into young chickens.

They will begin to learn about the life cycle of the animals that hatch from eggs. They will learn the needs of animals. The students are inherently and intuitively curious naturalists. They're sponges for knowledge, absorbing, retaining and using new information. It is important to educate children with as many hands-on experiences as possible.

Having chicks in the classroom with engulfing the room with excitement. It will be noisy from all the language development. Children will be asking questions, formulating theories, communicating, listening, drawing and writing about what is occurring within their classroom.

The incubator and egg turner will be used to hatch the eggs. The egg candle tester will be used to see how the chick is growing inside the egg. The bulbs, guards, starter kit, and food will be used after the chicks are here to keep in the classroom for a week or so to observe. The book and exploration kit will be used to explain to the students the life cycle of the chickens in more detail.
