I am a teacher at a title one low income school. My classroom is a inclusive classroom with special needs students. When students encounter science concepts in a variety of contexts, their understanding and retention is broadened, deepened and enriched.

Science and reading complement each other well because of the similarities between reading skills and science process skills. The meshing of the skills in both subject areas make them natural partners for integration. In my classroom I'm lacking science based literature materials to provide my students this wonderful opportunity.

Teaching science through the use of children's literature is an effective way to lead students to enduring understanding of important science concepts. I am writing this proposal in hopes to get the science literature materials to provide my students this wonderful opportunity. Kaplan has a variety of interesting Science books and materials that I have chosen that would be wonderful to add literature into my science center.

Please consider funding this proposal so that my special children can read about science and go beyond it to utilizing linked, active science experiences. Thank you for reading my proposal.
