I need support to attend the Pathfinders Winter Institute so that I can learn how to design, build, and create electronic circuits using a variety of media.
I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy. I work at a Title I middle school as an instructional coach. I have the privilege to support teachers with designing lessons to meet the needs of their students. I model effective instructional strategies for teachers and I work closely with teachers to use formative assessment to drive instruction.
My school is one that is diverse in learning styles, cultures, and interests.
Many of our students come from military families and their experiences are often brought into the classroom. More than 50 percent of the students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
The Pathfinders Winter Institute will allow me to understand how to use paper circuits to explore the intersection of arts and engineering.
I will learn how to build interactive papercraft models of a “future city.” I will build circuits on paper using electronic modules (LED stickers), copper tape, and a variety of art and craft materials.
This hands-on experience will allow me to persevere, problem-solve, and develop my critical thinking skills. I plan on creating a student engineering club using the resources and materials that I learned about. I will also share with the students the problem-solving skills I developed while attending the institute.
