Chess is the greatest of all board games. I wish to bring this classic and timeless game into the lives of my students. I am a 6th grade English teacher at a low income NYC public middle school.
Many of my students go home after school and play video games or watch television. I want to give them an alternative. I am looking to provide them with an after school chess club where they can productively use their time learning the game of chess interactively with their fellow classmates.
Our chess club is in need of sturdy chess boards and pieces on which to learn and play the game. Chess taxes the mind and demands patience, planning, strategy and risk. Students will certainly benefit from the mental exercise as well as the peaceful atmosphere provided by this after school club.
