My Students

My honors chemistry students are faced with the challenge of learning about chemistry without having the proper amount of lab equipment to complete chemical reactions. While we can perform demonstrations, we all know hands on chemistry will have much more of an impact on my students.

My students are primarily sophomores and juniors who enjoy doing science.

Our school is a community high school, named after the small city it is located in. Many of my students have aspirations of going to college and possibly working in the nearby booming field of bioengineering. I hope to provide them with inspiration to become scientists, but that is extremely difficult when the students do not often get to perform experiments on their own, but have to watch their teacher.

My Project

With all of these lab supplies my students will be able to design and perform their own chemical reactions according to the scientific method. In other words, they will be afforded the opportunity to actually "do" science instead of just learning about science. They will learn how to safely use different instruments and how to design single and double displacement reactions.

I feel this project is very important for my students' advancements in the scientific realm of education.

many of my students will be applying to universities, colleges, and trade schools. Many of the opportunities at these schools will be in the realm of science and I want my students to be able to see how exciting real science can be.
