Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The fundamental structures of our world can be experienced through chemistry. Through rapid chemical reactions students will learn about the elements and how they form/break bonds.

My students are city kids that have been drilled in Math and Language Arts.

They are immigrants and kids on free lunch program. My school has been one of bottom 5% of schools for test scores in California. At the same time, they are inquisitive, thoughtful and in need of quality experiences at school.

My Project

We need need a flame test kit, elements kit and model rocket set to experience dramatic chemical reactions to dive into the periodic table. I can think of nothing more stimulating than chemical reactions. By creating some drastic examples we will explore the mystery of the periodic table and why certain elements interact and others don't. This will reveal a world of the very small and help explain our current models of atomic structure/bonding. Students will acquire an interest in a field that is intellectually stimulating and that will challenge very common misconceptions of how the world works.

Your contribution will help make high quality chemistry education available to students that don't have the resources to purchase these awesome materials.

Help encourage a whole new generation of scientists to make these bold leaps.
