My Students

If you remember back to when you were in school, think back to what was your favorite part of science class. It was the laboratories of course! In our classroom, we conduct a great many labs, but we need a safe storage area for the chemicals that we use.

My school is in a very low income area in Los Angeles where all of the students participate in the free lunch program.

They do not let this hold them back however, and are applying to high schools and aspire to attend college. My students have excelled in science. I am trying to instill a love of science to give them a leg up on a future career based in science and technology. I know that they will able to continue to achieve if given the opportunity and this is what I am trying to give them in my classroom.

My Project

My classroom has a large number of laboratory supplies, but we need a place to store them safely so we can rest assured that the students will remain safe. As budgets are cut, I do not have supply money to even have enough gloves for students to conduct experiments for the rest of the year. Safety is of the utmost concern in the science classroom and right now my classroom is failing. We are not up to code with regard to where we store the chemicals and the amount of safety gear available to the students for this school year. These goggles and acid cabinet will be available to use for future classrooms and the gloves requested will last us for at least three years.

These are crucial supplies for any classroom that is studying chemistry.

What would chemistry be without working with acids and bases? Safety supplies are an urgent need in a science classroom and those classrooms must not be shortchanged even in these times of dwindling budgets. In my classroom, I strive to have it as engaging and interactive as possible to keep students' interest. These hands-on activities help students excel in science and hopefully will develop a lifelong interest in science
