This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what your high school lab looked like? Today schools face too many budget cuts and we lack too many resources that prevent us from giving students the best education possible. These students are our future and they should not be cut short.

My students attend a high in need New York school.

They are tenth grade students, who are taking a course in chemistry being offered for the first time. Because it is a new school, our first year high school students have not had much opportunity to experience a full functioning laboratory setting. They have not been exposed to the equipments or materials used to conduct an experiment.

My Project

It breaks my heart when they ask when will they stop working with items such as sugar, salt, vinegar and baking powder. I intend to try my very best to motivate them and love science. They should graduate knowing what those "weird chemicals" are. I want them to be enthusiastic about experiments and science in general and I cannot do this alone. I need your help to purchase chemicals that will help me conduct fun activities and reinforce my lessons.

My project is important because my students have been very patiently waiting to see an exciting chemical reaction happen, not one dealing with the usual household items, but one that requires preparation, energy, and results in an eye catching phenomenon.
