Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My goal this semester is for my student's to pass the New York state's Global History and Geography Regents. With it being one of the four core regents needed for graduation but the only one based on two years of material there is no question of why it is the one with the lowest pass rates.

Passing the global regents is hard for any student but looking at the population of my students when can see how much more support they need.

My school's population comprises of students that are reading far below grade level. We have a large number of students that have Individual Education Plan's due to a wide ranged of disabilities as well as a significant number of student's that have newly immigrated to the United States and are English Language learners.

My Project

As we start a new semester and approach the regents there many ways these materials will benefit my students and myself a s a teacher. One way is for organization and setting procedures in the class room. Students can see either their assignments or class rules and expectations. Another way is allowing students to take control of their learning and reporting back to their classmates of their discoveries. This will also help conquer multiple subjects and have student teach each other with jigsawing. Displaying key vocabulary and strategies for the regent exam will benefit my students especially those that need constant repetition, or visual aids.

Chart Paper is always something that I took for granted as a teacher until this year when the principal said she would not be buying any.

I have tried to tape legal paper together to create my own 'Chart paper" or just make copies of important information. As we get closer to the regents they have either lost those handouts or cannot see the signs because of their size. There is a lot of information that would serve my students if they were permanent fixtures in the classroom on chart paper.
