My Project

My students are special because they are all English Language Learners, some of whom are brand new immigrants to the US. The students I work with are special because not only do they need to work hard in class like any other student, but they are also simultaneously learning English. I work in a K-8 school and the students I work with speak the following first languages: Spanish, Arabic, Indian languages, Japanese, and Nigerian.

My goal this year is to make the ESL room a place that students look to for resources and find success in school.

I'd like to reward my students for their hard work by giving them the best tools to take advantage of the high-dosage Ed Tech programs we use in ESL. I’d like them to have good quality headphones that are easy to clear and sanitize that also come with a microphone. That way students can get the most use out of programs like Lexia and Amira, which gives real time AI feedback via the student microphone. Right now we do not have enough headphones or microphones for all students to get the most impact from these programs. We also need 2 charging stations for their laptops so we can take advantage of our new flexible seating options. We want students to be rewarded and motivated to work in cozy comfortable spaces! Right now, they not have enough chargers, and students come with dead computers which takes away from learning time. Also the cords we do have are not very long. The charging stations will give us more options and increase learning time dramatically!

My students love surprises and rewards so I can not wait to see their reaction to the new improved ESL room/ the progress they make in English after we have it!
