My Students

My students come from mostly working class families. Many with Spanish speaking homes. I have students leaving my classroom throughout the day for speech, adaptive physical education, and extra support for individual educational plans (IEP).

We are working extra hard this year to get all of us reading.

More than 80% of my second grade students are still learning the fundamentals of reading. There are a handful that we are trying to push up with their phonic skills and sound to letter awareness, pulling them out with another teacher to give extra instruction to give them a fighting chance.

I am challenged this year to reach my students in new and different ways than I have taught before. I believe that technology is going to be a path to individualizing their instruction.

My Project

My students can be difficult to motivate. However, when they are able to use the Ipads they get very excited. It can be difficult to charge our 7 Ipads. We were able to take them from the computer lab cart. They are not used anymore for the upper graders for their state testing. We must find resources where we can!!! The cart is too heavy and takes up too much space to put in our classroom. Not to mention, other classrooms are using the rest of the devices from the cart.

It would be great to charge up the devices all at once, so that no student is denied using the Ipad because it is out of charge.

It will also help the students to keep it organized and safe from damage. My students can research, use reading and math apps to propel their learning.
