My Students

There are over 600 sixth grade students in my school, and I have the privilege to be the proud teacher of 91 of them! Many of them come from bilingual households and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Each student comes into my classroom as a scared individual (for their first time in a middle school comprised of over 2,000 students) but leaves as a part of a family!

While in my room, they are "my kids," and I take the trust that their parents put in me very seriously!

A teacher is not only an educator; to me, a teacher is a provider, nurturer, nurse and lots of times—a mother figure to these children.

My Project

The students in my classes have received iPads to use in replacement of textbooks. However, most of them come to school without them charged. I only have one charger in the room so if someone needs to charge their iPad they need to bring their chair to sit next to the plug and the others need to use their notebooks while waiting for the charger.

With multiple portable chargers my kids can sit comfortably at their desks to complete their work as their iPads charge.

There are many factors to why their iPads aren't charged: they weren't home because they needed to go to sit at their parents’ job until they get off work, there is only one charger in their home which is used by other siblings/parents or they forget to charge it.

These portable chargers will help the students so much because the more they use their iPads the faster they lose battery and when I have a class last period the iPads seem to be almost dead by the time they get to me. If I can put these at each table, we can make charging stations which allows the students to continue to work with the technology that is provided for them.
