This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a dedicated 7th-grade teacher in an underprivileged urban district in Newark. My classroom serves students who face significant challenges, and I am committed to ensuring they have the resources they need to thrive academically. Currently, none of my students have their own personal Chromebooks. They rely on the school issued devices, which are only charged at the end of the day or during brief 45-minute prep periods. This limited charging time creates a major barrier to their learning. Frequently, students are left without fully charged devices when they need them most, preventing them from accessing digital learning tools, completing assignments, or engaging with the online resources that are critical to their success.
I am seeking to secure charging stations for my classroom that will allow my students to keep their devices powered throughout the day, ensuring they have uninterrupted access to the technology they need to succeed.
By providing a consistent and reliable source of charging, these stations will remove the barriers of uncharged Chromebooks, allowing my students to work without technological setbacks and engage fully in their lessons.
I also strive to provide differentiated learning opportunities for all of my students. Many of my students benefit from Learning Ally, a platform that provides audiobooks to students with diverse learning needs. The ability to access these audiobooks has proven invaluable for students who struggle with reading, allowing them to engage with grade-level texts and build their literacy skills at their own pace. To further support my students’ learning, I aim to provide dedicated spaces where they can work in small groups or centers.
Your generous support will help remove the technological barriers that my students face, giving them a chance to fully engage in their education and succeed academically.
