Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first grade teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district in the South Bronx. It is a public elementary school with 613 students. My class is filled with vibrant, eager learners who require a variety of ways to learn. About 75% of my students are performing below grade level and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Many of my students live in shelters, receive out-of-classroom services for speech, reading and math, and are English language learners or have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).

My students face many challenges each day and come from low-income families; their life experiences require different needs, and my students deserve nothing short of the best to help them reach their full potential.

They come from a community filled with homelessness. For many of them, I am the only comfort, security, and positive source in their life. I want to make my students feel welcomed, appreciated, loved, and know that they can do anything they put their minds too!

My Project

Most of my students have either broken or lost their iPad chargers over the past year. I would like to create a charging station in my classroom that will allow me to charge several iPad at one time. There have been times when students' iPad die in the middle of an assignment and they would have to wait a few minutes for the iPad to boot back up and charge.

Being prepared for learning is very important!

I also would like styluses that my students can use with various programs to write and draw on the iPad. I want to incorporate the use of iPads (and other technology) in the classroom. I want my students to enhance their learning experiences with the use of the stylus and their iPads.
