Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an inclusive group of both general education students and special education students who have a range of needs and learning styles.

My students are eager second grade learners who miss coming to school!

Being out of school has really taken a toll on them, and the thought of going full remote this year is really impacting them social emotionally. My students are a mixed group of students with disabilities that impact their attention, focus and ability to reach second grade standards.

These amazing students are visual learners, who learn best when they can connect to and relate to mentor texts. Having access to new read alouds, would allow my students to remain engaged in reading, whether we end up fully remote or in a hybrid model.

My Project

With distance learning becoming the inevitable for the start of the school year, I want to get a head start and begin planning and preparing social emotional lessons through character education for my students.

I am requesting character education books which will allow my students to understand, care about, and act on core ethical values.  Character education is a method of teaching that enables students to understand, care about, and act on core ethical values.

To do this, I need a number of mentor texts and read alouds that focus on diversity, respect, responsibility, patience, kindness, being a flexible thinker, and more!

My students have been home since March, isolated and stuck in their homes for fear of going out and getting sick. They miss their friends and are excited for school to begin again. When they return in September though, school will not be "business as usual", and I will need to place a large emphasis on social emotional learning.

Now more than ever, my students need access to lessons that are engaging and targeted to meet their social emotional needs. Through character education and with access to these mentor texts, I will be able to meet those needs and support my students.
