Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year I am doing language arts in two classrooms. Our Second Grade Spanish Bilingual Classroom has very few books and almost no chapter books. I would like to continue to improve the selection of books so that students can feel motivated to read. I have chosen books that are high interest for students. In my two classrooms students are able to read silently or with partners while I work with a small group to teach them skills specific to them. Each week they chose several books to keep at their desk so that they can read when time permits.

Students can also borrow one book per day to read at home.

Having a good selection of books is key to keeping students engaged in reading. Fiction chapter books are a great way to move students who are reading on their own but need vocabulary development and fluency at a higher level.
