My Students

My students need more space to hang coats. One of the flaws of my new classroom is there is not enough hangers in the coat area for all of my students. We have 17 hooks and 27 students. Some of the backpacks end up on the ground making it a chaotic mess.

The students at our school are in a suburb of a larger metropolitan area.

We have a variety of backgrounds that the students bring to our school. Some live in apartments but others live on farms, many live in single family homes. We have a wide range of experiences that students arrive at school with.

My Project

We will use the coat locker cubbies requested to help make our classroom more functional. When there is not enough space to hang backpacks and coats then a large portion of our clean up time getting ready to go to lunch and home is spent searching for "my stuff". One student indicated that he thought someone had taken his lunch but in reality it was just hidden under three backpacks that had been piled on top of it. This is more than just adding more hooks to the existing area because the area is so small we need a free standing coat area to accommodate all the students' coats.

Having a place for the students to hang their personal belongings will create a feeling of order and peace in our classroom.

We will have more of a community because the students will not be accusing others of "touching" their things. It will help with our learning by allowing students to quickly find their belongings so that we can spend more time on task.
