Channeling That Middle School Energy

Help me give my students the PE equipment that will let them release some of that adolescent energy and make it easier to focus on mastering academic skills.

My Project

The best-known trait of a typical middle school student is the constant state of motion he or she is in due to the high-energy nature of adolescence. This project's goal is to give around 400 6th-graders the means to expend some of that energy in a positive outlet. Footballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, kickball, and safety cones give students the materials to actively practice the social skills associated with team sports. Children learn to work together, think strategically, and stay focused - all skills that can easily transfer to the classroom and beyond. They might develop a lifelong love of physical activity that can be a positive influence on adult health. Hula hoops and jump ropes can encourage individuals to practice physical skills on their own. Additionally, all of this physical exertion is an outlet for that boundless teenage energy - making it easier for students to be attentive in the classroom.
