My Students

I teach exceptionally bright and hard, working DES students. The students I teach have exhibited a willingness to learn and have grown beyond virtual expectations. I currently have one first grader, one second grader, and three third grade students in my Interrelated Resource classroom. Although my students are within the Urban districts of our county and live in low-income neighborhoods, they are working hard to develop and maintain positive relationships with their teachers and peers. My students bring a host of experiences to the classroom with their culturally infused ideas and discussions.

In my classrooms, my students are reminded of and practice Growth Mindset strategies every day.

This allows them to improve academically and accept challenges with no fear. Our instructional day includes small groups which allows for more differentiated instruction and an advance in technology lessons.

My Project

Most of my students are currently sharing district issued laptops with their siblings. To allow my students to continue growing without compromising knowledge gained, they are in need of Samsung Tablets to extend their learning beyond the classroom, without interruptions. Samsung Tablets will allow me to assign age appropriate, web-based learning programs that my students can personalize, save assignments not interfered with by other users, and increase their technology skills. Also a study conducted by Fairlie, R. and Kalil, A. (2013) suggests that students with access to computers have an increase in social skills. This find can greatly benefit my ELL students.

An instructional day in our classroom includes mostly small group instruction.

We currently have a few desktop computers in the classroom which is not conducive to small group instruction. Samsung Tablets can provide the opportunity for suitable differentiated lessons, individually assigned activities, and for students to work at their own pace.

With Samsung Tablets used in the classrooms, our students can also enhance their skills in responsibility and writing. We plan to use log sheets for the students to use to record their usage and to explain in their own words, what lesson(s) they’ve worked on. My students have also demonstrated how focused they can be when working on the computer, therefore, Samsung Tablets can increase attention span.
