My Students

"When I'm jumping, I can feel my body parts really well...my bounding legs and my clapping hands--and that makes me feel so, so good. -Naoki Higashida, The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism

When it comes to children with special needs, physical education is a therapeutic practice crucial to their well-being.

Because of the nature of their disability, our kids constantly feel trapped and constrained inside of their own bodies. Like Naoki Higashida, when our students play, run, jump and get their bodies moving, their anxiety subsides and they begin to feel relaxed, safe and happy. Not only does physical education improve our students' moods, it is necessary for proper brain development and therefore, can help our students retain the skills and strategies they need to become independent.

My Project

The balls being asked for will help increase my students' ability to learn how to throw, catch, kick, and pass as well as many other gross motor skills. Through the use of the inflatable jumping enclosure my students will be to jump and move within a confined space to ensure safety. The jumping inflatable will also help my students with their sensory, spacial and balance development. Staying active should be fun and allowing the students to jump and move around in this ball pit will encourage them to stay physically fit.

By donating to this project, you will make a tremendous and holistic impact on my physical education classroom.

These items will contribute to my students' lifelong love of physical fitness and will help to improve their academic and functional skills. Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal!
