This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember what it's like to burst out singing when you hear the right song at the right time or to change your opinion because of something you heard on the Radio? My students are experiencing the power of free speech in their dynamic student run radio station but need your help to realize their dreams.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and economic conditions and attend our unique charter high school of the arts and multimedia.

Our school encourages creativity, lifelong learning in the Arts, and excellence in Academic pursuits. Many of the students in the Radio Broadcasting program don't fit into various 'tracks' that characterize many school systems. The Career technical orientation provided in the Radio program prepares them for internships and jobs in the Entertainment Industry. They meet and interview celebrities and people who are key to making the industry grow. They also put on their own shows with artists at the school and with local bands whom they promote on the station.

My Project

We are requesting an Ipod in order to have a portable playlist of great music that reflects the students desire to cater to a wide variety of people who come to our events and listen to our music. Students are learning how to select music that different types of people like and, in the process, they learn about lifestyles that are different than their own. We are also requesting headphones in order for students to be able to work on their shows without interruptions. Student run shows are the best way for them to express and apply the knowledge they acquire in class, on field trips and in life.

This project is very important to the radio station, the school, the community that we serve and, as an example, to America and the world at large.

Teenagers, parents and teachers don't always understand each other. Through shows that encourage understanding between generations that share the universal love of music and culture, the radio station is a catalyst for transformation in people's lives. Walls crumble as people share their common goals, news, events and love of music via the radio station.
