Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a first grade teacher working in a Title I school. This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently serves approximately 8 shelters that include services for the homeless and drug rehabilitation centers.

Every day, I come to work with the motivation of making a difference in the life of a child.

My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices and other materials of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges daily, I try to provide them with the best education possible. I want them to have access to all the materials and resources that will allow them to learn and grow independently as the year evolves.

My students mean the world to me! Their happiness is my happiness! With the help of the DonorsChoose.org community, my students will have the chance to have a successful academic year. One that involves hands-on learning, comfort, smiles and fun.

My Project

These chairs will allow my students to sit comfortably during class time instruction. Good seating ensures that learning goes on, and that students make the choices that work best for them. My students often complain about cracks in the chairs, and wobbly legs. They become distracted rocking back and forth, and many times complain about being uncomfortable. Making sure that students are comfortable is an essential component in motivation. I have noticed great differences in my students when they are given choices to sit elsewhere such as the carpet or stools.

My students are noticeably engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers when they have a comfortable seating option.

These chairs will give my students additional seating options that will allow them to make more effective learning choices. We will also be able to eliminate all the old, and cracked chairs that we have in our room. All students should be entitled to good seating options during their time in a learning environment. These chairs will fill us with happiness and comfort! The chairs are lightweight and can be easily carried by students. They can be moved throughout the classroom for various rotations and learning experiences.

I have seen how good seating impacts students work and demeanor. I hope that having new chairs will give us the opportunity to eliminate distractions and continue focusing on a better tomorrow!
