My Students

A typical day in my classroom begins with using our outdated, damaged laptops. We need every minute to have my challenged readers use on-line learning programs. I would love my students to be on level for Reading and Math. The biggest challenge in getting them there is our lack of technology.

The K-8, public elementary school that my second grade students attend is in a low socioeconomic neighborhood.

The 28 multicultural children that I spend most of my day with are extremely hard working and come to school each day to do their absolute best. Although our classroom has the bare minimum, in terms of supplies and equipment, my students make the best out of so little. It makes me feel extremely privileged to be their teacher. The children have also formed a bond with each other that goes beyond the walls of the classroom. They are very helpful to each other, and the first ones to finish an assignment are also the first ones to want to help their classmates. My students are also a very "giving" group. Although most of their families do not have funds to spare, the children recently emptied their own piggy banks to help raise money for little boys and girls with cancer.

My Project

We will use these chair book bags to help us continue our personally chosen reading books. When there is time between our lessons, we will be able to pick out a book and read. These chair bags will help us to have continued access to the books we choose, and will help us to use time in between lessons to read!

This donation will help to improve the procedures established by encouraging the students to pick out a book to read instead of wasting valuable time in between lessons!

The students will have weekly time to change their books, and continue to decide what they want to read. This project will change their lives for the better because it will encourage them to be life-long readers!
