My Students

Every day in my classroom we have literacy and math centers during two periods of our day. The kids love the relaxed atmosphere and hands-on opportunities during center time.

I teach an inclusion Kindergarten class full of amazing kids (both general education and on the autism spectrum.) They are enthusiastic, creative, and very hard-working!

Our urban New York school is small and full of staff and students that work together to enrich learning. We also love taking field trips and utilizing the resources in our vibrant, diverse school neighborhood.

My Project

During our after-lunch literacy and end of the day math center times, my students are split up into small groups of 3-4 children in various locations around the room. They take part in a variety of literacy or math centers that reinforce activities of the current unit, or support struggling students with past skills that they need practice on. They learn skills such as beginning, middle, and ending sounds from the literacy centers. The math centers help them learn how to solve math word problems and reinforce number sense.

With these new centers, my students will have a wider variety of centers to continue reinforcing their literacy and math skills.

The colorful, hands-on activities will make the learning games fun and keep my students interested.
