Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a gifted teacher in a title one school. This year my school was selected as one of 300 schools in the state of Florida to receive an extra hour of instruction every day due to our test scores. Because I have the highest performing students, instead of doing intervention I'm doing enrichment.

These students need to be inspired in order to keep their interest from waning.

I would like to introduce these students to different STEM activities that will not only teach them, but keep them interested in learning.

These kids are very clever and creative and tend to excel when doing activities that are meaningful to their lives. Most of them are from other countries and the parents are working two jobs just to try and make it. 98% of our students are on free and reduced lunch and 100% are minorities.

My Project

Since I work with multiple grade levels at the same time, it's important for me to have activities that engage and challenge my students. Most of them love to read so having comfortable beanbags to sit in encourage them to use the library center more.

I have discovered that a majority of my students are interested in using technology and get excited about turning their writing into a blog.

With the iPads it enables them to be so creative, they can turn what they write into a video, or publish it on line. I've seen them capture their writing into a cartoon format and want to share what they've made with the whole class.

The K'nex will go into an engineering center where they can make different creation and see how simple machines work together. We also got the twistables so that they could document their creations.
