Help Ms. Boyce

I teach a self-contained emotionally disabled classroom. The children staffed into my classroom are in grades kindergarten through third. The children come into my classroom because they have emotional or behavior problems that are so sever they interfere with their academic progress. Many times these children have already fallen behind their peers academically. The children who enter my classroom are at many different academic levels. One of the advantages to a self-contained class is that these children receive more one on one academic instruction then their peers in general education. This is so important to the children, but often difficult for the teacher when there are so many different academic levels in one classroom. The supplies I have included in my proposal will help provide the teacher as well as the students the opportunity to improve their writing. The overhead writing kit is a structured process to introduce writing skills and genres. This would be the first step to teaching the writing process. The writing prompt kits as well as the story stamps and the writing center are great opportunities to allow the children to work on individual writing projects while allowing the teachers in the room the extra time needed to give the kids one on one instruction. The stamps will help children who struggle with developing ideas to write about. The center has 80 different writing projects that cover all five writing styles. It includes picture dictionaries and editing cards and these will give the children opportunities to answer questions, such as spelling words correctly or completing the editing steps, without the teacher. As the children become more independent the teacher can provide one on one academic time without constant interruptions. It also begins to develop self-confidence in the students and self-confidence is the greatest motivation teachers can hope for struggling students. There are so many educational tools that will help these disadvantaged children learn. I try to provide all that I can but I would appreciate any help I can get with this writing center project. I work with a great group of students who are eager to learn. Thank you for taking the time to read my project idea.
