This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are very creative and tend to learn better through the usage of fun, and often times silly, hands on activities. They can write notes and watch me demonstrate with guided practice with ease, but they often gain a better understanding when they complete hands-on activities in addition to the traditional learning methods.
Not only does using fun ways to teach increase students' understanding of the objective, but it adds a sense of enjoyment as they complete their daily assignments.
However, most students come from low income based families and can only come to class with pencil and paper. Thus, they are dependent upon the additional supplies and resources provided for them in the classroom and burst with excitement when allowed to utilize hands on tools when learning new skills and objectives.
My Project
The cell models will allow the students to not only be able to visually see, but to also have a bigger representation where they can identify the various characteristics of the cells. Students will be able to handle the models, which will be beneficial to hands on learners who need more than pictures. In addition, when teaching from the front of the classroom, using the document camera will make it easier for all students in the classroom to visually see the models and any notes that may follow. With the usage of these materials, all types of learners are being engaged.
