Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a group of "at promise" students who were pre-identified because they struggle in multiple areas, academics, attendance, and behavior. This program and class is designed to provide students with academic and social emotional support to be successful in high school and provide them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.

My students tend to exhibit extrinsic motivation and tend to work harder if there are incentives and knowing that they will be rewarded with something tangible which is why I always look for opportunities to reward and celebrate their accomplishments.

In addition to celebrating my own students, I help with school-wide incentives and celebrations, one of which is Student of the Month lunches. Nominated students enjoy a "fancy" lunch with their teacher, take a picture with them, and receive a certificate. Decor varies by month or holiday. Sometimes the food is catered but this time we want to prepare the meals ourselves. The gift cards will be used to buy the food and grocery items needed to make this lunch celebration possible.
