My Students

I teach an amazing class of 22 students that love learning. My students are very dynamic and enjoy learning that comes with a challenge.

My students have a big heart for learning!

Whenever we take on something new, they're always willing to jump in feet first often teaching me to take risks, too. Their love for learning inspires me to grow and learn right alongside them. Without my students, I would not be writing this grant today. Their continued passion makes me want to grow and learn, so I can help them meet their best potential.

My Project

Children see themselves in music artists and in movies, but when they can't find themselves in children's books, that's a problem. When a young reader finds a story that positively reflects his or her own story — or presents the stories of people not like themselves — that child becomes encouraged to read more.

Imagine a world in which all children can see themselves in the pages of a book.

The materials in this grant will put books with diverse characters in my students' hands daily. These books will help students see themselves reflected in our the world, and, just as important, it will help them recognize the humanity of other people. Teaching kids to appreciate and celebrate diversity is a top priority in today’s global landscape and we cannot wait to do this in our classroom!
